The California Avocado Commission ("CAC") held a board meeting on Monday where a motion was made to write a letter to the Unites States Trade Representative's Office to initiate the process of requesting the International Trade Commission ("ITC") to monitor imported Hass avocados into the United States during the upcoming California season. The purpose of the motion was simply to have CAC ask the ITC to collect statistical data to determine if foreign imports of avocados are now being imported in such increased quantities to be a substantial cause of serious injury (or threat of serious injury) to the domestic avocado industry. Given CAC's lack of action, we are now in the process of forming a new grassroots coalition of California growers interested in exploring trade relief and protecting the long-term viability of the California domestic avocado industry. It is called the California Avocado Coalition. We also encourage you to sign up as a member (it’s free) on this website. The Coalition believes that in order to be successful, we need to convince the United States Trade Representative’s Office that our coalition has the support of our industry so we’ve created an online petition that we’re asking you to sign. It’s free and only takes a few minutes which you can do by clicking on the below link:www.ipetitions.comPetition Save the US Avocado Industry Since out trade organizations like CAC refuse to help us our only option is to help ourselves. Go to californiaavocadocoalition.com for updated information on this and other issues.Lastly please be aware that our mailing list is limited and can reach only a portion of California Avocado growers so please pass this email along to every grower you know. Your assistance is sincerely appreciated.
